Automated lamb feedlots

Boyd Metal Works designs and constructs fully-automated lamb feedlots.

Peter and Ann-Maree Boyd designed and constructed their first lamb feedlot on their Cowra district property, ‘Canimbla’, in 2016. The feedlot is used to finish up to 8000 lambs each year for a range of domestic and export markets.

The 2500-head facility features fully-automated feeding, weighing and drafting systems that have slashed total labour requirements to less than eight hours a week. The variable drive grain mixing system allows the composition of the ration to be easily changed according to available ingredients.

Lambs in the ‘Canimbla’ feedlot routinely achieve daily growth rates of 0.35 to 0.45 kg/day, allowing them to be turned off at a minimum liveweight of 65 kg in just 60 days.

Boyd Metal Works has designed and constructed 2500 to 8000-head sheep feedlots throughout NSW and Victoria. Please contact us to discuss your project.
